Discover the Taste of China on a 2017 Vantage Travel Journey

One of the best parts of traveling with Vantage is savoring a new experience—like enjoying the food that’s grown in a certain region and prepared in a way that you’ve never seen or tasted before. Whether it’s eating a gourmet meal at a restaurant or enjoying the unique flavors and cultural exchange of a home-hosted meal, the food is always authentic and flavorful when you’re traveling with us. When it comes to Chinese cuisine, it’s popular all over the world, but there’s no better place to experience its origins than by traveling with Vantage. Every day of your trip is another opportunity to taste the flavors of this revered cuisine, and as always, there are healthy options to choose from as well.

On our 2017 small ship journey, Imperial China, Mysterious Tibet & the Yangtze River the meal options include Western-style delights, but it’s mainly a Chinese-food lover’s dream! All meals give you a varied, authentic experience that reflects this imperial land. With stops in Beijing, Xi’an, Chengdu, Lhasa, Tibet, Shanghai and a three-night Yangtze River cruise, your adventure to dive into regional Chinese cuisine awaits.

For breakfast, travelers can expect a buffet-style meal with international food, but for the included lunches and dinners, expect mostly Chinese cuisine like steamed or fried pork and Gongbao chicken, a tasty Sichuanese dish with diced chicken, chillies and fried peanuts. While on the Yangtze River cruise, travelers can expect buffet offerings and gourmet meals like the sample menu here. Special meals include traditional Chinese cuisine like a Welcome Peking Duck Dinner and a dumpling lunch.

Travelers might be familiar with the Chinese cuisine offerings on the sample menu, but the flavors in China might be different than what we’re used to in the U.S. Of course, we’re happy to accommodate any special dietary requests you may have (vegetarian, lactose-intolerant, and allergy-specific concerns) provided a request is mentioned during the booking process.

The most popular types of Chinese cuisine are Shandong, Jiangsu and Sichuan. The availability of each style is dependent on the local resources available in each region, considering they put an emphasis on fresh and local ingredients for each dish.
