Just returned from the Portugal Douro River cruise. Looking back over the many highlights, which included a trip to Salamanca, a university city in Spain, I am struck by the strong contrast between Portugal and Spain. Portugal with it's vineyards, olive, almond, chestnut and cork trees and Spain with it's farmland, sheep and toros (bulls) in the fields and the Storks! Who knew that Storks were In Spain! Their huge nests were easy to spot in the country and in the city. The two countries also have distinctive music and food. Portugal with it's fish, pork, sausages and Fado music. Spain with paella and flamenco dancing. What a trip!
