We traveled to Amsterdam via KLM provided by Vantage out of NY. Flight was smooth, friendly and all food and drinks were free. The new ship, Venture was wonderful, the crew was the most efficient friendly staff we have ever had. Food was outstanding and always served on time. We had three outstanding Tour Guides, wow what a great team, Arjan, Tessa, and our Casper made the entire cruise a wonderful adventure, learning experience and fun. Even with unexpected cool weather they made us feel warm wanted and found things to do that made us forget what they had no control over. We will be traveling with them again.

Vantage Deluxe World Travel Secures Miss Belgium Noémie Happart to Christen New Ship as Godmother!

World-renowned tour operator launches new river cruising vessel in Antwerp

BOSTON (February 20, 2013) –  Vantage Deluxe World Travel (www.vantagetravel.com) will officially launch the new 

river cruising vessel, ms River Splendor on March 14th at a grand inaugural event in Antwerp. Miss Belgium Noémie Happart will serve as the godmother of the ms River Splendor in a traditional naming ceremony in which the godmother breaks a “christening fluid” or bottle of champagne over the vessel, officially declaring it named, blessed and ready to sail.

“Vantage has been building vessels in central Europe for 30 years and our friends in The Netherlands and Belgium have always been gracious and hospitable,” says Vantage COO Kevin Wallace. “Our Waterways of Holland & Belgium trip continues to be one of the most popular in our portfolio and we could not be more excited to welcome Miss Belgium Noémie Happart as our godmother on March 14th to help us celebrate our fleet expansion.” 

Noémie Happart became Miss Belgium earlier this year. She is from Grace-Hollogne in the province of Liege. She will go on to represent Belgium at the Miss World and Miss Universe pageants later this year.

The celebratory christening along the port of Antwerp, in Belgium will include live music, toasts and speeches from Vantage management followed by a three-course dinner aboard the new ms River Splendor for over 200 guests. The following day, the ms River Splendor will depart on a four-day inaugural voyage along the Rhine River to Amsterdam.

The new vessel is part of a $120 million fleet investment program, which will double Vantage’s river cruising fleet by 2014. The new ship offers intimate cruising for no more than 176 passengers, single staterooms and single seating dining options as well as bigger staterooms with French balconies and wi-fi throughout the ship. This launch follows the successful inaugural season of the ms River Discovery II, which launched in March 2012. In addition to enhanced amenities, passengers can choose from new itineraries along the Rhine, Main, and Danube rivers, a new Grand River voyage in France, and revamped itineraries in Portugal and Russia.

Designed with the American traveler in mind, the 442 ft. ms River Splendor will offer luxury amenities and the best crew-to-passenger ratios in the industry, says Wallace. “Our extensive selection of river cruise itineraries is really changing the way travelers experience all corners of Europe.”

This was my first experience on a river cruise and a return to Europe after many years. Normally I do Adventure Travel, I was so pleasantly surprise by every thing on this journey. The ship was beautiful, the food Gourmet, the staff friendly and helpful. You could not ask for more. As a senior citizen, mother of two and grandmother of five, I have been blessed with enough years to have had almost countless experiences. Travelling has been among the greatest! In my journeys to countries like China, Egypt and Israel, I've discovered that Geography truly comes to life through travel and in spite of customs and life styles, people are very much alike the world over!

As a student, Geography was not one of my favorite subjects. Back in the '50s, travel was mainly done by the wealthy which excluded my family. My world was the home and city in which I lived. All those countries on the map seemed so unimportant. Then my life changed when I fortunately met and married a man who wanted to travel. He has literally shown me the world! Visits to London, Paris, Venice and Rome have brought Europe to life. I have flown over the Artic Circle and the Gobi Desert and can locate them on a map. I have learned with enthusiasm that Egypt is a country in northern Africa and that the Nile River flows North! Finally, I have experienced the warmth of the people in the tiny country of Israel and learned of their life of constant, impending danger.

Traveling our amazing world is a living education and an eye-opening experience. But I have found that people and their basic needs and emotions are much the same worldwide. Almost everyone cherishes family, they socialize and dine together and seek a safe, comfortable place to rest and rejuvenate. Facial features, housing accommodations and menu items may vary but all human beings share so many similarities. I have been blessed to witness this first hand through the beauty of travel and hope that my education continues for many years!

The Danube River Cruise was everything we anticipated and more. The Cruise crew was just delightful on all levels - anticipating every need, but funnier than hell when performing during evening programs.

Our company included a range going from witty and wise staff members who anticipated our wants, and graciously fulfilled our needs, to our lovely "B program manager", a young woman from Russia who spoke English as well as many other languages, and solved ever so many problems for my sister Mary and me, covering most of our needs before we recognized them.

My nephew Michael and his lovely Susan were great leaders for us. Michael had a fine store of historical knowledge, as well as ease in solving lots of technical problems, and Susan anticipated great things to do, and unknown places to visit. I am not positive that Michael and Susan can lift tall buildings, but the two of
them were miraculous at moving heavy luggage for their grateful relatives.

The trip was wondrous from start to finish, but that evening when our ship "sailed" north on the Danube, with Buda on one side, and Pest on the other, was the most memorable miracle. The arrival was so very effective with a midnight speaker expressing commentary on the history of the buildings, the burden of the wars of history, the return of valued statues after some of
many wars.

What a lovely vacation! Heaven is seeing the lights of Buda and the lights of Pest from the top of a wonderfully comfortable boat floating up and down the Danube.

I have never been on a trip where everyone tried so hard to please and I have taken a lot of tours. I was especially impressed by the executive chef Predrag. He came around to each table at each meal to make sure that we enjoyed our food. He truly loved cooking and people.
The countries were as I expected them to be and the tulips were at their peak. I am looking forward to another river cruise with Vantage.

Velvety smooth and full of fragrant garlic, this simple soup is homey and comforting, served in small portions, making it the perfect appetizer.

Predrag Mrkalj is one of Vantage's Executive Chefs who cooks for our guests aboard our newest European River cruise ship, the ms River Discovery II! This is his amazing recipe for Cream of Roasted Garlic Soup! This soup is just one of the amazing creations by Chef Mrkalj that you'll find onboard.

Cream of Romanesco

Recipe from Soup Cookbook: Health in the Bowl by Predrag Mrkalj. This dish is available on our ms River Discovery II!

Ingredients: 

2 tbsp olive oil

1 onion finely chopped

2 tbsp plain flour

3 cups vegetable of chicken stock

1 lb broccoli cut into small florets

1 1/2 cups milk

1/2 tsp grated nutmeg

Salt and black pepper

Directions:

Heat the oil in a large saucepan. Add the onion and cook gently for about 4 minutes. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually stir in the stock. Add the broccoli and bring to a boil.
