Ever wanted to retrace the path of Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton? Now you can aboard our Shackleton's Antarctica: An Exclusively Chartered Voyage! Enjoy panoramic tours of Buenos Aires, bird watching on Falkland Islands – with over 70 animal and bird species, and explore the island of South Georgia, home of the largest king penguin colonies and groups of fur and elephant seals!
Unlike Shackleton’s team, you’ll travel in deluxe style on this private small ship cruise to the White Continent, the ultimate travel destination. In fact, our Antarctic cruise has become so popular that we’ve chartered an ice-rated Hurtigruten ship, the ms Fram, just for Vantage travelers.
Highlights of your Memorable Journey include:
• 18-night Antarctica cruise from Argentina towards the remote Falkland Islands/Malvinas and the stunning landscapes of South Georgia!?
• 4 included days in Buenos Aires with 3 nights at the Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel & Convention Center, daily breakfast, a city tour, and Tango Show with Welcome Dinner (2 nights before cruise, 1 night after cruise) – a value of $1,200 per couple!
• Naturalist-Guided Shore Excursions by PolarCirkel boats in Antarctica (weather permitting) to Deception Island, Paradise Harbour, Cuverville Island, Port Lockroy, Neko Harbour, Wilhelmina Bay, Antarctic Sound, and Brown Bluff.
• Hurtigruten expedition team with an expedition leader and 7 onboard lecturers. The expedition team will escort you on shore excursions and give you presentations and lectures on the history, biology, ornithology and geology of the region.

I've read some poor reviews of food on the Fram, but I thought it more than satisfactory, though I would have two suggestions: 1) dinner buffets every night, and 2), rotating the table assignments for dinner. Having dinner every night for 18 days with the same people means not having the opportunity to meet others. The Vantage crew makes sure we understand this is an expedition ship, not a cruise liner. I'm certain most of us would have been pleased with buffets at night rather than selecting from 2 entrees.
A one-day transportation strike in Argentina messed with some travel plans, resulting in us missing a landing in Antarctica, but it gave us a full day to explore enchanting Ushuaia. Our program managers and the landing experts were phenomenal. They really went out of their way to accommodate us. I recommend this trip unequivocally, as long as you wear those motion illness ear patches. I am particularly susceptible, and I had not a twinge of nausea, even in 50 foot plus waves!
I found my cabin comfortable and pleasant (outside cabin, deck 6). No frills like the suites, but my roommate and I were pleased.
We had some wonderful experiences on the islands and the continent. While the Falklands and South Georgia are each special in their own ways, our landing on the Antarctic continent at Base Brown was by far our favorite. I think the fog and snow contributed greatly to that, as well as the flat calm water in paradise Bay.
In Stanley on the Falklands, be sure to take the Bluff Cove trip rather than the other optional tours offered.
