I thoroughly enjoyed this trip. Stayed one night in Bucharest and then boarded the River Discovery II in Oltenita. The food was superb--better than on Cunard cruises. Ran into a couple who were on my Vantage Best of Africa trip back in 2010--I always know I'll find other Vantage travellers who are engaged, interested and curious. The home lunch, school visit, Orthodox chant group and Budapest by night were the highlights but I find it hard to find a negative on this trip. I especially appreciated the single cabin option.

Before we went on this cruise I said if my husband, who has been chronically ill since 2005, didn't fall down and break something, the trip would be a success. We were celebrating my birthday, our anniversary and his getting off dialysis after 7 years! In spite of a wrenched knee, he soldiered forth. We had both been to Provence 15 years ago yet this trip surprised us because it took us to places we had never been on the last cruise and told us fascinating stories about each place! We liked the Cultural Connections the best. Playing the National Game of France, Petanque, was great fun! Having a picnic with wine at the Pont du Gard was a convivial, enjoyable way to get to know the other passengers and the food and wine were delectable. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the "Il Divo Concert - Live in London" in the Lounge for Musical Night. The French lesson was informative, humorous and relevant. It was a nice touch to have the hand out with English/French translations. Mario, the chef's cooking demo in the Lounge won rave reviews from the passengers. The cheese tasting lecture was delightfully humorous, instructive and useful, plus being yummy. The handout here was also helpful. Another high point was our very French lunch in the charming "La Somellerie" restaurant in Chateauneuf du Pape. What we discovered about our destinations we didn't really know before is that ALL French wine is luscious. This trip changed our perspective on France, which we had heard was unfriendly to Americans. On the ship and off, we were treated courteously and with respect! The cabins on the MS Rembrandt were tiny, and it's too bad both beds couldn't be down during the day. The food was exquisite and the wine was lovely and plentiful with dinner. We especially enjoyed the creamed soups each night. After this experience, we will definitely be booking another river cruise with Vantage. It just might be the best river cruise out there! Thank you Vantage!

We were game for the bumpy horse-drawn wagon ride into Dunaalmas. We didn't know the fun that waited for us there. The men and women of the village, with the aid of an interpreter, welcomed us with brandy and then helped us make bread in their big oven. After tasting it, the villagers gave us a demonstration on how to shape and fill a cherry strudel. Then we travelers were given the chance to do it. I encouraged Bill to try it, so with 3 women he began making a strudel. He was the best dough-tossing, cherry filling baker of the group. He really enjoyed it! What a great sharing opportunity that transcended culture and language barriers!

This was my first experience on a river cruise and a return to Europe after many years. Normally I do Adventure Travel, I was so pleasantly surprise by every thing on this journey. The ship was beautiful, the food Gourmet, the staff friendly and helpful. You could not ask for more. Our trip was five years in the making. It was certainly worth the wait. It was more than we could have ever imagined. We booked both the pre-extension in Budapest and the post-extension in Amsterdam which just gave us additional memorable experiences. Friends keep asking what our favorite places, and it's an unanswerable question. Every day was amazing, beautiful, and educational in so many ways. Our Program Manager was Sandor and he added so much to our trip. He is a walking encyclopedia with a quick his wit, sense of humor, and experiential knowledge of American culture. He made our "orange group" the envy of all on board because of the fun we had and the friendships we made. If anyone is on the fence about booking with Vantage, get off and book the trip of your dreams. Everything is well thought out, organized, and making your trip the best is the goal of everyone on board. I am a well-traveled individual. Through the military, and a tremendous interest in the world and cultures, I have traveled extensively: European tourist destinations, Japan Greece, Korea, and many more as required by military requirements or my interests.
